The Roehampton Parish Trust (‘RPT’) is a charitable trust that aims to benefit the residents of Roehampton through grants to the community that support social projects
Grants for community projects in Roehampton
The Trust has the following objectives in its assessment of grant applications:
- A smaller number of grants will be made each year in the amount of £5,000 to £20,000
- Grants will be made to established organisations with strong roots in Roehampton and proven community development capability
- Preference will be given to organisations that partner with other local groups and institutions to maximise community impact
- Grants will be considered that support working alongside other funders, particularly those that provide matched
- The emphasis will remain on those institutions that promote capacity building and legacy in Roehampton
The Trustees will continue to consider these objectives in the context of their achievement of the Trust’s charitable objects.
To apply, complete a grant form and email to vicar@holytrinityroehampton.org or hard copy to 7 Ponsonby Road SW15 4LA.
The Trust expects to make a fairly small number of fairly large grants to organisations that have an impact on .
The kind of grants we want to make
Projects that make Roehampton a better place to live, learn and work.
Locally based projects. People and organisations based here that know this place are more likely to get a grant than a large organisation based outside Roehampton. We are interested in the local vision, that grows out of real life lived here.
Projects that build on each other, connecting with others in Roehampton to get things done; improving what is already here, multiplying the impact of activities.
Visionary projects. The people here know the problems and have vision for the solutions. We are willing to risk a few projects that don’t go so well as the cost of funding some that are fantastic but couldn’t get money anywhere else.
Cheap and sustainable. We are not looking to waste money, and there should always be a plan, or at least an aspiration, to become self-funding.
Our grant policy can be downloaded here.
Helping Roehampton get better at doing this
We are also interested in making grants that help local organisations get better at doing what you do. We want to get to the stage in ten years’ time where Roehampton is full of people and grass roots organisations that operate efficiently, are financially stable, attract funding from elsewhere, run a tight ship. We want to invest in this.
Applications that take this seriously will be more likely to succeed.
Help work out what the big themes are
We want to fund projects that build on and reinforce one another. That means focusing in ‘theme’ areas. We want to fund ten projects that all do work in one broad area, rather than a scatter gun approach.
But what are these areas? What are the themes? This is one big thing we need to find out from local people and organisations. Is it health? Sport? Education? Employment? Business startups? Environment? Something else?
We need to hear from everyone what these areas are.
We are here for the long haul
The terms of the Roehampton Parish Trust are that Trustees have to live in the Parish of Roehampton or within a mile of the Church. We are all locals. We want to see the problems of Roehampton solved by the people of Roehampton in a Roehampton way. We are not about ‘doing for’ or ‘doing to’ but ‘doing with.’
Also, we are here for the long haul – here for good. We will go on making grants year after year, and go on targeting those grants to build up something that is greater than the sum of the parts.

Trust history
The original trust deed of 1911 provided for a church hall for Roehampton parish church and the neighbouring Parishes, formally distinct from Holy Trinity, but aligned with and effectively under the control of the Church. In recent history the church hall (known locally as the “Cornerstone“) was sold to Wandsworth Borough Council and the space now utilised for housing offices . The proceeds of this sale now form the basis of the RPT, which benefits both the religious works of Holy Trinity Roehampton and also the community through the RPT. The objects of the Trust are:
“FOR SUCH CHARITABLE PURPOSES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE RESIDENTS IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT AS THETRUSTEES SHALL DECIDE. THE AREA OF BENEFIT IS DEFINED AS THE ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH OF ROEHAMPTONAND THE NEIGHBOURING ECCLESIASTICAL PARISHES.”
